Meet the main parking lot at 10:30 a.m. ready to roll out for our family sightseeing drive to Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock, and Black Beach, followed by optional adventures and an evening campfire.

We hope to gather again later for a campfire and some casual stargazing on the back lawn, depending on weather, smoke, and where everyone lands after dinner, but the night is yours! - Nice weather: main hotel campfire area is the planned meeting place. - Rain/smoke plan: gather at Katie’s townhouse instead. Prep: Wear comfy layers, bug protection, bring a camp chair or favorite blanket if you have one, and come and go as you’d like!

Explore!
Friday daytime is all yours. Have coffee by the lake or in a nearby forested cafe. Ask your family to grab a meal or to go on adventure. Then explore or relax: bike, paddle, shop, golf, fish, hunt for agates, book a spa treatment, read, visit a local town, look for rocks, etc. If what sounds the most fun is just catching up with family, you’ll likely always find some company at Katie’s townhouse!
Request: Please make sure you are back in time for the family party at 5, and you might want to preview Saturday’s plans so you don’t double up on any stops (:Tip: If you’re hoping to do something that requires a rental or appointment, you may want to book ahead!

You can also arrive in Two Harbors a little early to explore the waterfront, lighthouse, local shops, restaurants, beaches, and Lake Walk before joining us!Please note: Liquor, Beer and wine are not permitted at the Community Center and Paige would really like her deposit back. Those interested may want to plan an early happy hour at Castle Danger Brewery or the like.

For those who wish to keep the party going, you can make your way back to Superior Shores for campfires, stargazing, or meeting up Katie’s. Wherever the night takes us! The morning is your chance to fuel up for the day ahead! Please give yourself plenty of time to grab coffee, get breakfast, pack lunch, or even literally get gas in your car. Today is an adventure day! We’re headed up the shore together for waterfalls, lighthouse views, dramatic beaches, and a few choose-your-own-adventure options afterward. Visit the plan below to see what you, personally, might want to plan for:Pack up: layered clothing for sun, cool weather, or light rain, your day packs, phone/camera, sandwich/picnic lunch/good snacks, water bottles, comfortable walking shoes with a decent grip, sun screen, bug spray, any medications or mobility aids you might need, swimsuits/towels, your best family playlist, and whatever else you might need for a day of exploring! You might also want to have a change of dry clothing if you plan to splash around at all!Note: Your lovely hosts can pair you with a cooler if you need a place to keep lunch cold! When we asked everyone in the family what they wanted to do, the answer was hands down: family sightseeing. So let’s go see those sights together! We’ve selected a few nearby sights that we can all enjoy together.Meet BY 10:30 am in the main Superior Shores parking lot. Look for the large group of Johnsons. We’ll coordinate rides and leave promptly by 10:45 am!

From Black Beach, we encourage cars to continue exploring, based on their personal interests and energy levels! Those who don’t wish to continue exploring can head back to their lodging! Highway 61 is full of no shortage of scenic overlooks, waterfalls, lake superior views, and dreamy destinations. It’s the gateway to the Boundary waters, Gunflint Trail, Ely, Superior National Forest, and Grand Marais, and Beyond! The following list is selected based on it’s proximity to our current route while still getting you back to your lodging before you’re too tired to function. Headed North:

Each group is welcome to make dinner plans of your own: Eat along the route, head back to Two Harbors, or make plans with a smaller group. We recommend staying flexible and not counting on fitting large groups at local restaurants during prime time without a decent wait or reservation.
